AES, or the Automated Export System, is a key component in the customs export process within the European Union (EU) and other European countries. It refers to the electronic system used to collect and process information about export shipments. Below is an overview of how AES functions and its importance in the EU and the Republic of Serbia.
Purpose: The main goal of AES is to simplify and modernize the export process by automating the collection of customs data. It provides customs authorities with comprehensive information about the exported goods, which facilitates monitoring, security, and statistical analysis.
Data Submission: Exporters submit export declarations electronically via AES. This includes details about the goods, the exporter, the consignee, and the mode of transport.
Facilitating Compliance: AES helps exporters comply with customs regulations by ensuring that the necessary information is submitted before shipments leave the EU. This reduces the risk of delays and penalties due to incomplete or incorrect documentation.
By implementing the Automated Export System, the Republic of Serbia is entering a new phase in the development of its information systems, which will primarily benefit the business community and the citizens of Serbia. Moreover, the implementation of AES helps fulfill the conditions of the EU accession negotiations by aligning Serbia’s systems with those used by EU member states to the greatest possible extent.
The AES system in the Republic of Serbia introduces new concepts that have not previously been applied in the export customs procedure:
Procedure at the export and exit customs office
Exit Summary Declaration
Re-export Notification
Simplified Export Declaration
Centralized Clearance Procedure in export
